Capture Customers With Your Business Card

Is the Business Card becoming obsolete? The fast pace of technology has made exchanging contact information convenient, quick and in some cases unnecessary. Businesses list their contact details on all digital platforms, thus through a simple Google search, you can find out what communication channel is the easiest method to purchase their product or service.


This digital world has replaced the primary purpose of the Business Card; however, other methods can prove to be valuable in today’s tech-savvy world. Let us take a look at some of the key points that make a Business Card unique to any professional.



Conversational

The Business Card is utilized in both professional and social settings. It’s a great conversation starter. It also acts as a guide for networking. Your Business Card usually has four core points that align with the products or services that you offer. If you are unsure of what to say, these points can assist you when asked about your business. In some cases, there is little that you need to do. Business Cards usually solicit questions about your business and at that point, you can forfeit the responsibility of carrying the conversation.


Respect

It illustrates that you have thought about the four corners of your business and the minor details were not neglected. Your brand must be powerful on a 4” X 6” card. How it is designed, structured and finished must be considered carefully, as it is an embodiment of your business. A card of poor quality that is easily destroyed can speak volumes to someone who has received it.


Demographics

Your target audience is important and you must ask whether your digital presence is reaching every potential customer. If part of your audience is not known to frequent digital platforms where they can find you easily, you must turn your attention to some traditional outlets. The Business Card is a traditional medium that is underutilized as it can capture a greater portion of your audience if used correctly. A good Business Card has an effective call to action that directs the receiver on what they should do next. Do they Email? Call? Or visit your website?


Usage

Producing Business Cards can be costly, and many do not realize that it is not a flyer. It is not meant to be a mass distribution tool. Too often I have had many colleagues approach me with 50 Business Cards and asked me to ‘hand it out’. I then ask, ‘to whom’? To which they respond ‘whoever’. The Business Card must be given to members of your target audience. You do not want to waste the resources of your small-medium business by mass distributing business cards that have very little potential. The card must be handed to someone who has peaked interest in what you do. When you present the card, you can make an elevator pitch and the potential for customer conversion will be higher.
